June 2022 HPE conferences wrap up

After much anticipation, we have just wrapped up a fabulous two days of professional development with our annual mid-year Secondary and Primary HPE conferences. These two days of professional learning took place at La Trobe Sports Park with packed sessions of quality hands on and theoretical content.

A special thank you to our event partner La Trobe University for their ongoing support providing the facilities and setup assistance across both days, including the amazing support received in 2021 when these events were cancelled at the very last minute due to changes to COVID restrictions.

The buzz at the sports park was electric as our passionate HPE teachers had the opportunity to see each other face-to-face and learn together in person for the first time since 2019 amongst the many workforce pressures faced by teachers and schools of recent times. With lots of new connections made, it was so great to connect and share with everyone again.

ACHPER Victoria CEO Hilary Shelton today echoed these sentiments. In her words, “The conferences bought together teachers from across Victoria and enabled them to engage in high quality professional learning, networking and fun IN REAL LIFE! It was hugely appreciated by the delegates and the vibe across both days was really positive and energetic”.

We are so grateful to our delegates, presenters and exhibitors for making both days such a success, we couldn’t have done it without them!

Here’s just a few snippets of feedback received so far:

  • “Approachable presenters. Fresh ideas.”
  • “I really enjoyed sharing ideas with other teachers, and seeing the implementation at other schools”
  • “I loved it, I’ll be back again!”
  • “The variety of sessions and topics was so diverse and allowed me to think about so many aspects of teaching, including my own wellbeing”

The sessions were fantastic and included topics such as teaching pedagogy, planning and assessment, practical sessions, teacher wellbeing, active yoga and mindfulness, outdoor education, biomechanical principles in action in the classroom, energy systems lab testing, FMS ideas and active schools to name but a few.

We had several new faces presenting this year, which was awesome to see, as not only does presenting at conferences further teacher capacity, it also goes towards meeting AITSL standard 7.4 ‘Engage with professional teaching networks and broader communities learning’.

Thank you to those teachers who attended live and took the opportunity to seek answers and engage with other teachers across the state.
