Our Board

ACHPER Victorian Branch is governed by a skills based and representative Board whose purpose is to provide ACHPER Victoria with strategic direction and rigorous corporate governance. The Board acts proactively to drive the work of the organisation to meet current and future demands of our members and the broader community and to ensure long term sustainability and viability in order to continue our valued and important work.

The Board also has ultimate responsibility for the finances of the organisation and holds legal responsibility for its ventures and actions.

Meet our Board

Kate Simpson, MACHPER (President) 
General Manager - Education, Sport and Club Development, Life Saving Victoria

Kate started her career and engagement with ACHPER as a physical education teacher before transitioning into the VET sector in program development.  Kate is currently the General Manager – Education, Sport & Club Development at Life Saving Victoria (LSV), which sees her working across the emergency services, sport, education, health promotion and not-for-profit sectors.   


Chloe Dew, MACHPER (Vice President)
Primary Teacher, Black Hill Primary School
Inspired by her Year 9 PE teacher, Chloe committed to a career as a PE teacher and educator. By encouraging students to focus on their individual performances, this teacher changed Chloe’s perspective and motivated her to believe in herself and her abilities. Chloe has been engaged as a presenter with ACHPER Victoria in a variety of areas and an active contributor to resource development. In 2020 Chloe was presented with an ACHPER Honour Award for her valuable contributions.

Peter Wright, FACHPER
Former Secondary School Principal and current board member of Sports Excellence Scholarship Fund (SESF).
Peter has been an active member and advocate of ACHPER and the HPE community for over 40 years. He commenced his career as a physical education teacher and retired after 8 years as Principal of Koonung Secondary College. Peter was a key contributor in the development of the HSC/VCE study designs from their initial adoption in 1991 and held the positions of Chief Examiner and Chief Moderator for Physical Education in the early years. He has continued to support curriculum delivery in HPE at years 9 and 10 as an author of the current text (in conjunction with ACHPER Vic), Quest for Good Health.
Peter is a life member of School Sport Victoria and the SESF.

 

Dean Taylor, MACHPER
Secondary Teacher, Aitken College 
Acting Secondary Interschool Sport Coordinator. PE/Health/Science Teacher

Dr Helen Brown, MACHPER
Senior Lecturer, Deakin University
Helen has been involved with ACHPER for over 30 years, as a teacher, employee and researcher and has extensive experience in the secondary and tertiary settings. Helen’s research interest focuses on behavioural epidemiology, particularly in relation to children's physical activity as well as sport coaching, the behavioural aspects of coaching and the mentoring process. Helen also maintains an interest in the evaluation of health promotion and related programs and activities. 

 
Professor Anthony Watt, PhD, MACHPER
Director, Learning & Teaching, Victoria University
Anthony has been associated with ACHPER as a physical education teacher and then as an academic from 1990. Tony also has extensive skills in the area of physical education pedagogy, both as a practitioner and as a researcher.


Tony Goodwin, MACHPER
Former Principal Murtoa College
Tony has taught from Foundation through to year 12. His main teaching methods have been physical education, health, outdoor education and sport. Tony is a former school Principal of an F-12 college.

 

Wendy Rowland
CEO, Australian Hand Therapy Association B.Ed. G.Dip.Bus.Man.MAICD
Originally a Physical Education and Health teacher in Victoria, Wendy has twenty years' experience in not-for-profit national and state-based sport and health associations in leadership, management, and marketing roles. Wendy is a visionary, innovative, solution-focused, positive, and dynamic leader and is currently the CEO of the Australian Hand Therapy Association (AHTA) with a membership of 1000 qualified physiotherapist and occupational therapists.
