Active Schools Update – March 2022

A lot has happened in the Active Schools realm since our last update. Read on for highlights of the Active Schools journey throughout Term 1 so far, as well as learn more about important dates and events to come in Term 2...

  • The Active Schools Expert Support Service (ESS) team has engaged with 180+ schools to date.
  • Over 150 Action Plans developed with funded schools to help create more Active Schools.
  • Our webinar series has had over 240 registrations.
  • Adriana Pinder is now on parental leave - we welcome Drew Mitchell to the ESS team!

A small snap-shot of some of the more localised outcomes:

  • A local community club in a small country town is now able to field junior sides (ensuring the sustainability of the club) after the work with Active Schools and the school/club partnership.
  • Several schools have connected with their local council and are now working on a plan to ensure a safer route to and from school for their students.
  • A specialist school which previously did not have any links to the clubs in their community, now has links with two clubs ensuring that their students can access after school hours options to be physically active.
  • At several schools, students are now running their own clubs at lunchtime. These clubs will then be linked to outside of school hours opportunities.
  • A school's student body will review and recommend changes to the uniform policy to facilitate greater physical activity opportunities.
  • Schools running on-site entry-level sport programs (such as Auskick and Blast) as a first link to their community clubs.
