Term 1 professional learning wrap up

With circumstances and plans often being altered at a moment’s notice, ACHPER Victoria’s professional learning events in Term 1 2022 have been through a plethora of change.

We have redesigned, rearranged, and redeveloped content, offerings, and experiences to deliver a professional learning program which addresses the key needs of our teachers.

Behind the scenes, our Professional Learning team has been working hard to deliver several events already this year including a virtual VCE® Conference, a brand-new multi-modal offering, ‘Back to Basics’ Accelerator Program, our Fundamental Movement Skills and Game Sense workshop (pictured – this was our first PD back to face to face in a long time, yay!), as well as regular HPE Staffroom meetings online.

Read on for a rundown of how things went:

VCE® Conference

Thanks to those who joined us over the three-week program for this year's virtual 2022 VCE Conference. It was great to see VCE teachers prioritising their professional learning at this integral time of the year, with teachers engaging and learning in real time and on demand.

All presenters did a fantastic job of providing valuable sessions online with a multitude of resources, ideas and learnings. We would like to again thank everyone for keeping your communities and each other safe by attending this event virtually. All recordings are available online via your myACHPER account (myACHPER > My Products > eLearn), and if you have further questions from sessions, please click here to send them through to us.

Back to Basics Accelerator program

Originally designed as a one-day program, our amazing Professional Learning team had to pivot and redesign the Back to Basics Accelerator program to ensure the safety and wellbeing of everyone involved due to pandemic measures. Currently underway, the program is an ongoing multi-modal program delivered through seven interactive eLearn modules. This group recently came together for their first forum, sharing learnings, ideas and discussing the content covered so far.

Fundamental Movement Skills and Game Sense workshop

Most recently, our Fundamental Movement Skills and Game Sense workshop was the first event that was able to be held in-person for 2022! It was exhilarating to see the La Trobe Sports Stadium filled with teachers learning together and making new connections. The participants left feeling energised and more confident, with a new set of skills and activities to try at their respective schools, contributing to successful outcomes for their students. Here's what one happy participant had to say...

"It was great! It was like uni 2.0, except I actually wanted to be there and learn. I learnt some really awesome games that I’ve already starting using in my lessons. I also found it helpful talking to everyone about how to plan a scope and sequence over a term/year so it flows through the levels. It was also a nice reminder that I am on the right track with my teaching but gave some awesome tips to slow down my focus on the FMS side of things" – Daniel, Primary Teacher.
