Team in Focus: Julia Davis - ACHPER Victoria Customer and Office Manager

Retiring earlier this month after a phenomenal 28 years with ACHPER Victoria, our beloved Kerrie Borrie has left the building. Stepping in to fill Kerrie's shoes, is the wonderful Julia Davis.

Julia has had quite the baptism of fire, quickly learning the ropes and hitting the ground running at our June HPE conferences. We sat down with Julia for a chat, here's how it went:

Tell us a bit about your past work-life

I have had many years of experience in office management and 13 years in the education sector. My first job when I left school was a full-time pool attendant at the local leisure centre, 'Julie the Poolie' they used to call me. This is where I picked up my famous wolf whistle skill. I enjoyed swimming and this is where I developed a passion for health and fitness. Instructing bronze medallion and learn to swim classes as well as having my certificate III & IV in fitness gave me a new perspective on the importance of being active.

What do you do for fun?

I enjoy sharing my passion for health and fitness with my family and enjoy bike riding the rail trails around Victoria. Hiking and finding the next exciting walk on the All-Trails App, to crawling on hands and knees to reach the top of Mount Feathertop in the blustery winds of our high country.

What professional growth have you experienced during your time with ACHPER Victoria?

Although I'm a newbie, my time at ACHPER so far has been extremely rewarding. I love the interaction with our registrants at the conferences and the conversations with them over the telephone. My IT skills have improved. I have never done so much sorting and searching on excel spreadsheets in my life.

Having the opportunity to work within the health and fitness industry has been a passion of mine and working 13 years in the educational sector in the physical education department within a school environment has been rewarding. I know this next chapter of my career here at ACHPER Victoria will continue to inspire me to be passionate, enthusiastic, and always to strive for improvement.

What is one piece of advice you would be lost without?

Learn something new every day. Never think you are too old to ask questions or know too much to learn something new.
