This workshop will provide you with an overview of the new web resource 'Kids Co–designing Healthy Places'. The resource was developed by researchers at Monash University project supported by VicHealth. The website supports councils and schools to engage with kids to co–design healthier places. It focuses on the things in our neighbourhoods that impact healthy eating and being active. Kids live, learn and play in the places councils look after. By including them in the design process we can build healthier futures together. The workshop will cover curriculum links, the use of co–design and student voice as a pedagogical approach and an exploration of the major audit tools developed for the resource.

Many games units taught in schools position the teacher as the expert. Creative PE (CPE) flips the classroom so that the students take on that role, yet teachers are still able to achieve outcomes concerning skills, strategies, sport and social responsibility. This session will guide primary school teachers through this pedagogical model that has proven engaging in schools.

This practical session will demonstrate how the Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility through Physical Activity (TPSR) model can be incorporated into your PE classes and coaching. Developed by Don Hellison it has proven effective in school–based physical education. TPSR in Physical Education is consistent with aspects of the VC: HPE Achievement Standards and many of the key ideas of HPE. Educators consistently report that once TPSR has been taught that their classes ran more smoothly and there was less need for class management as the students are increasingly self–managed.

But have you considered how you are going to collect your evidence throughout the year that is meaningful for the student and manageable for you? This session will share with you ways in which you can utilize technology to provide feedback and assessment in an objective and purposeful way.

Pill (2013) stated, ‘Children don't learn to be skilful by simply sending them out to play. The refinement of movement skills needs to be guided. This requires purposeful feedback on performance in games that are purposefully targeted at developing a particular motor skill or concept. Five elements construct this play with purpose.’ This practical session will introduce the five elements that enable you to construct lessons through playing games with a purpose.
