New F–10 health and physical education resource now available

An exciting new Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) Health and Physical Education (HPE) F–10 resource is available to help teachers use assessment to better target their teaching to meet student needs.

The Movement Assessment in Practice (MAP) platform delivers evidence-based fundamental movement skill (FMS) assessments in one easy-to-access platform.

When using MAP, HPE teachers can choose relevant movement skill assessments as diagnostic and formative assessment tools to inform their teaching. The MAP forms a foundation upon which teaching can be targeted to student needs, maximising the potential for optimal learning of movement skills.

The MAP platform provides HPE teachers with five valid, reliable and feasible movement skill assessments that can be incorporated into their teaching and learning programs. These include fundamental movement skill assessments (locomotor and object control skills and stability skills) and combined movement skills.

The platform includes a filtering system for the age and skill category of students, and provides teachers with easy-to-follow descriptions and diagrams of the movement skill assessments, along with supporting videos and resources. Downloadable automated Excel scorecards that analyse the student data collected and provide teachers with a clear picture of what their students need to learn are also available.

The MAP has been written in collaboration with Samantha Snow, Deakin University (PhD candidate and Health and Physical Education teacher). ACHPER Victoria’s Professional Learning team have also proudly contributed to the development of support materials.
