FREE event(s): Wheelchair tennis 'come and try day' and 'Identifying Para-Athletes' webinar

Did you know you don’t have to be in a wheelchair to play wheelchair tennis? ACHPER Victoria/Active Schools has collaborated with Tennis Victoria/Australia and Paralymics Australia has a fantastic opportunity for you and your eligible students to attend a wheelchair tennis ‘come and try’ day and a FREE teacher PD session. This flyer attached contains further information.

This fun day is designed for students to learn about the fundamentals of the sport, participation pathways and integration into school sport. Our experienced coaches will be on hand to work with teachers and students to answer any questions you may have.

This session will be a valuable learning experience for all who attend, providing you with insights into working with students with disabilities and will give you an opportunity to see firsthand the benefits of inclusive sports programs like wheelchair tennis.

In the lead up to this event we are running an online webinar, ‘Identifying Para-Athletes and their opportunities in schools’ on Tuesday 2 May at 3.45pm, which will focus on student eligibility for para sports, how to be inclusive in school sport/PE classes, and pathways for students outside of school.

The session will be delivered by Paralympics Australia and ACHPER Victoria/ Active Schools, with the support of School Sport Victoria. The workshop is open to teachers or staff from any Victorian primary, secondary or specialist school.

Learn how to identify an eligible student, understand the basics of para-sport, covering:

  • Incorporating students in PE classes
  • Opportunities through inter-school sport
  • Pathways for students outside of school

This webinar is a great opportunity to build your knowledge around inclusion and would be a great time to ask questions you have about inclusive practices and the wheelchair tennis day.
