Using a theme-based curriculum structure in HPE’ seminar with Monash Uni and ACHPER Victoria

ACHPER Victoria is partnering with Monash University to deliver a series of FREE HPE lectures each school term in 2019. The second in the series, ‘Using a theme-based curriculum structure in health and physical education’, will be delivered by Dr Laura Alfrey (Senior Lecturer, Monash Education) and ACHPER Victoria’s PL Manager, Dr Bernie Holland on 8 May, 2019.

A live streaming option can be selected when you register for the event. More information on how to access the seminar remotely will be emailed to you after registration.

About the seminar

Health and Physical Education programs often consist of a variety of units that focus on one sport at a time. This can constrain student learning and engagement in a range of ways.

This seminar will demonstrate how Primary and Secondary Health and Physical Education teachers can structure their program using themes or categories, as a means of advancing student learning and engagement. The session will illustrate, with examples from the ACHPER Victoria Movement and Physical Activity Resources, how a themed approach meets relevant aspects of the Victorian Curriculum.

After attending the seminar, teachers will have the capacity to address the 'Active Play and Minor Games' (F-6), Fundamental Movement Skills (F-6), and 'Games and Sports' (3-10) Focus Areas with a fresh and evidence-based approach.
